Cross-border 24h Flea Market in Konstanz

·2 mins

The cross-border 24-hour flea market in Konstanz is one of our personal highlights on Lake Constance. This year, we once again decided to pay it a visit. Due to the recent heat and the weather forecast, we opted for late Saturday afternoon. Said and done – we quickly bought two return tickets for the 700 bus online. As expected, the bus was absolutely packed.

Luckily, we managed to grab two seats on the ferry, as most people took the short break to stretch their legs.

The flea market itself is lovely – commercial vendors are limited, and many booths are run privately. But with the heat and the masses of people, the right vibe just didn’t really kick in.

What I personally missed were drinking fountains or a cheap way to get water. For an event of this size, that should be a given in my opinion. Beer and food stands were everywhere – like “Dönelux.” Döner from the Benelux?

Just before closing, we hopped into Aldi and stocked up on water. Then began the search for a calm, seated place to eat. That, too, seemed to be forgotten by the organizers. We would have loved a few shaded spots where you could enjoy a drink or a snack.

Eventually, we found a place at GOODRICE – the food was tasty, and for Konstanz, the prices were reasonable. Our table neighbors, an older couple from Poland, were super sweet and charming.

Well-fed, we wandered through the market a bit more – with the bus stop always in mind. We got lucky – the bus arrived about five minutes later, and we cruised home feeling completely relaxed. All in all, a lovely Saturday evening that helped us unwind from the everyday hustle.
